What we found
A chamber of commerce with no email address
No address and no mail link anywhere on the site. One telephone number. For an organisation whose entire purpose is putting businesses in touch with one another, the absence of a written route in is the one thing that undercuts the offer.
The footer is a year behind the page
The copyright line reads 2025 while the content above it is 2026. It is small, and it is on every page, and a prospective member reads it while deciding whether the organisation is on top of things.
Join Now and Pay an Invoice are both in the menu
Which is the right instinct — the two transactions are one click each. But a business that has not joined yet cannot find what membership costs, or what it gets, without going looking.
The directory is the asset and it is a menu item
Every member business, in one place, in a town where finding a local supplier is genuinely hard. It sits between Membership and Chamber Resources with no more prominence than either.
Your own menu is: Directory · Membership · Chamber Resources · Event Calendar · Annual Events · Contact · Join Now · Pay an Invoice · Member Login.
What already works
Seventy-one years of it
Connecting since 1955, which is longer than the smelter has been running and longer than most of the businesses in the directory have existed.
The transactions already work
Join Now, Pay an Invoice and Member Login are all one click from the top of the page. The plumbing is done.
They say whose land it is, in their own words
A land acknowledgement to the Haisla Nation, written by the Chamber, with a link to the full text. It is theirs and it stays exactly as it is — this concept refers to it and does not reproduce or rewrite a syllable of it.
What would change
Publish an inbox
One address, on every page. A chamber that cannot be written to is asking every enquiry to become a telephone call during office hours.
Put what membership costs on the page
A figure and a list of what it includes. The business deciding whether to join is the one visitor the whole site exists for.
Make the directory the front page
Searchable, by category, above everything else. It is the reason non-members visit and the reason members stay.
Let the footer year look after itself
So it is never again behind the content sitting above it.
Not covered by this concept: Member records and login · Invoicing and payment · Event ticketing · The land acknowledgement text · Advocacy positions · Board information
